Fresno, CA– California’s Tax and Fee Administration made headlines last week with the announcement that California’s gas taxes will rise again on July 1st. SB 1, signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown raised the state’s gas tax and had a provision to adjust the gas tax to match inflation as a result taxes on fuel have risen every year since it went into effect. California's taxes, fees and carbon policies add an additional $1.80 to every gallon of fuel. 

In a statement, Assembly candidate George Radanovich called on the California Legislature to repeal SB 1. California's Gas Tax, which is the highest in the nation, disproportionately affects low and middle-income families of the Central Valley and is a significant factor in the state's rising cost of living.

“When crafting SB 1 the Legislature couldn’t have imagined the skyrocketing inflation we are experiencing today and for the state to benefit financially off the skyrocketing inflation and off of California’s most needy is inconceivable. It’s time for the California Legislature to admit that the annual tax increases attached to the gas tax are wrong and do the right thing and bring relief to Californians who are suffering with skyrocketing inflation,” said George Radanovich. “The Legislature can take swift action and bring relief by repealing SB 1 immediately.”

Radanovich's proposal comes at a time when gas prices in California have been consistently the highest in the nation, adding further strain to households already impacted by the economic challenges of the past few years.

George Radanovich is endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association PAC because of his strong anti-tax background. Additionally, Radanovich has earned the key endorsements of several influential organizations such as the Fresno County Republican, Calaveras County Republican Party, Tuolumne County Republican Party and the Madera County Republican Party.

George Radanovich was the top vote-getter in the March 5, 2024 Primary Election for the 8th Assembly District. The 8th Assembly District is located in California’s Central Valley and is home to Fresno, Tuolumne, Madera, Calaveras, Inyo, Mariposa and Mono counties.
